GHOST SADDLES ARE AN ENTIRELY MODULAR SADDLE

This means that you only need 1 base and 1 set of panels but can have more than one seat to completely change the look and feel of your saddle! The bases can have either English leathers or Western Fenders - the choice is yours!

Go here for our how-to video on how to swap out the seat

First Choose your base: there are 4 different bases to choose from!

Ghost Bases Explained

Cavallin Base: (Bareback Saddle) This base is the most flexible of them all. It comes with it's own integrated saddle pad (attached via Velcro) which inserts which create some spinal clearance for the horse. This saddle is great for arena riding and for riders desiring the best possible 'feel' of their horse and their movement. It is not recommend for long distance riding due to it not having a channel for the horses spine. If you were going to use it without stirrups and your horse has exceptional healthy topline, then some distance riding should not be a problem. The twist (area where the rider sits) will feel as wide as the horse you are sitting on.

Flexx Base: (Treeless Saddle) This is a Cavallin base that can be ordered with or without a pommel arch (no metal in the pommel arch). There is also no metal in the 'nose' of the base. When ordered as a complete saddle, it automatically comes with panels (attached via Velcro) which create good spinal clearance for your horse. Therefore this saddle can be used in the arena, trail, endurance etc. It is recommended that a Ghost saddle pad (or similar quality treeless saddle pad) with rider appropriate inserts be used at all times. The twist (area where the rider sits) will feel as wide as the horse you are sitting on. It is available in 2 widths.

Semi Flexx Base: (Treeless Saddle) This base is slightly more rigid at the front when compared to the Flexx base. This is because it has a small metal arch, with flexible tips, in the 'nose' of the base. It can be ordered with or without a pommel arch (no metal in pommel arch). This saddle has some soft layers of foam built into the Twist (area where the rider sits) so will feel slightly narrower than the horse you are sitting on. It is available in 2 widths.

Ghost Base: (Flex Tree Saddle) This base is the most rigid of them all as it has the most structure to it therefore has the best left/right rider weight distribution. It has a small metal arch in the 'nose' of the base and can be ordered with or without a pommel arch (no metal in the pommel arch). This saddle has some soft layers of foam built into the Twist (area where the rider sits) so will feel slightly narrower than the horse you are sitting on. This base would be the best choice for the heavier or unbalanced rider due to it offering more structural support. It is available in 2 widths.

General Information about the 4 Bases

1) All bases can be ordered with or without a pommel arch, (which has no metal inside) except for the Cavallin base.

2) Most, if not all seats, fit onto all 4 bases.

3) Either Puro (simple 2 strap V girth billets) or Sliding rigging can be used/interchanged on all except for the Cavallin base. Puro rigging is however available on the Cavallin base.

4) #3 or #4 panels can be used on all of the bases, even on the Cavallin! But Cavallin panels have to be specially ordered as the Velcro is different for the Cavallin base.

5) The Flexx and Semi Flexx bases can come with fixed stirrup D's (always 2 each side) or a movable Velcro plate which is standard on the Cavallin model. The Ghost base always comes with fixed stirrups D's (2 each side).

6) Bases can be purchased on their own without panels - see the Replacement Parts shop link.

Ghost Saddles ~ Treeless and Flexible Tree Construction

Ghost Saddles are made to exceed even the highest of expectations. Our self-adapting technology allows for a custom fit, ensuring comfort for both horse and rider. Each saddle is handcrafted in Italy using only the finest materials for a lightweight and durable result. Experience the ease of riding with Ghost Saddles and never look back. We offer unparalleled comfort and durability in every saddle Ghost produce. That's why we're the go-to choice for many horse riders across Australia.

All Ghost saddles come as a complete unmounted saddle which includes: Base + Panels + Seat. The base is completed with girth rigging, panels, and a seat. Panels are available in different thicknesses to suit you and your horse and the type of riding you wish to do. The base, which there are now 4 choices of, and panels, determine the fit to your horse. The seat changes the looks and gives support to the rider. 3 of the bases come in 2 widths: Standard or Wide. The Standard width base fits 98% of horses and the Wide base fits the remaining 2% (Think full bodied Gypsy Cob or obese Fjord).  The bases are available in 3 seat sizes: Standard (large adult), Piccolo (slim adult) and Bambini (kids). It is super easy to switch seats out (watch the how to video on this page). Your saddle can change from a dressage model into a saddle for hacking in a matter of minutes. There are many different seats to choose from. See the Ghost saddle range and Cavallin Saddle range.

The seats can be made from numerous types of leather and/or synthetic material. GHOST is always searching for new material. We will try to show you some of the possibilities below. Pictures will always be different from the real product, also because leather is a product of nature, colour and finish can be different to what is shown on this site.

The base is made from layers of strong and flexible material:

  • Micropell (synthetic leather).

  • Montecchio (fabric from Nylon and Polyurethane).

  • Carbon Fibre (reinforcements around the stirrup- and rigging).

  • Bio-thane Granite (straps and belting).

  • Metal piece in the 'nose' of the base on Ghost and Semi Flexx models only. Ghost no longer put metal in the pommel arch on any base.

  • Stainless steel for rings and studs as standard but brass also available upon request. Stirrup D's and buckles will always be Stainless Steel.

  • Girth rigging is a simple English (Long Points)  2 strap V configuration (Puro) or V sliding rigging. Puro is our go-to rigging option unless you specifically order sliding. We find Puro rigging suits more horses. Western rigging is also available upon request.

  • There are 2 stirrup positions available when using English leathers and single strap Ghost Fenders. Use the rear rings for more of a Head - Hip - Heel alignment (Dressage) and use the forward rings for more of a GP position. The USA Fenders utilise both stirrup rings so offer a more stable leg position than the single strap fenders or English leathers.
